What to Expect
Congratulations on booking your first tutoring session with Learn with Brainiacs! We're excited to work with your child. Here's everything you need to know to make the first session a success.
Before the Session
Pre-Session Checklist
- ✓ Computer, tablet, or phone with camera and microphone
- ✓ Stable internet connection
- ✓ Quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions
- ✓ Paper and pencils/pens nearby
- ✓ Zoom installed and tested (we'll send the link)
- ✓ Any relevant schoolwork or materials (optional)
You'll receive a calendar invite with the Zoom link about 24 hours before your session. If you don't see it, check your spam folder or contact us!
During the First Session
Step 1: Getting to Know Each Other (5-10 min)
We'll start by introducing ourselves and getting to know your child. What are their favorite subjects? What do they find challenging? What are their interests? This helps us build rapport and tailor our approach.
Step 2: Informal Assessment (15-20 min)
We'll do some quick activities to understand your child's current level. This isn't a test - it's just to help us see where to start and what skills to focus on.
Step 3: Interactive Learning (20-25 min)
We'll dive into some engaging learning activities based on what we observed. This gives your child a taste of what regular sessions will be like.
Step 4: Parent Recap (5 min)
At the end, we'll briefly share what we observed, our recommendations, and answer any questions you have.
Tips for Parents
- Stay nearby but not on screen - Your child may feel more comfortable working independently with the tutor, but stay close in case they need you
- Avoid distractions - Turn off TV, put away toys, and silence phones
- Be positive! - Talk about the session as something fun, not a consequence or punishment
- Share any concerns - Let us know about any learning challenges, IEPs, or specific goals

- Don't worry about getting things wrong - we're here to help you learn!
- Ask questions if something doesn't make sense
- Try your best and have fun!

After the Session
Following your first session, you'll receive:
- A brief summary of what was covered
- Observations about your child's strengths and areas for growth
- Recommendations for next steps
- Optional practice activities for home
